Intelligence City for New Driving Force A New Future For Sustainable Development

Have you ever thought about how human beings can have a promising future? Sustainable development could be the key. Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations is a global mission. Countries join together to strive for a futuristic world in 2030. Sustainable tourism also needs to be considered. However, nearly one-third of the goals are not yet achieved. In just nine years, what can we do? Who will step out of their comfort zone and take responsibility for our future? The UN or the government? The answer is, of course: all of us! We need every human being to be involved.

Nowadays, tourism is being promoted all over the world. Macao has been a treaty port connecting China and Europe for many years, and the development of tourism has a history of more than a century and has become the pillar industry of Macao. How can the Macao community become better? Sustainable development is a choice. Building cities and human settlements that are inclusive, safe, resilient, and sustainable is also an important goal. Unfortunately, the annual growth of Macao's inbound tourists also shows the pressure of tourism carrying capacity. How to balance the allocation of resources and space between tourists and residents and the inclusion and integration between economic development and different cultures has always been a challenge for tourist cities.

The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development SDG target 8.9, aims to “by 2030, devise and implement policies to promote sustainable tourism that promotes local culture and products” . As a tiny city with a high density and large flow of people, the narrow geographical area and natural environment have become scarce resources that restrict the development of the Macao tourism economy, and are also vulnerable to the sustainable development of Macao tourism industry. But what do we do next? I will tell you what we do next. Integrating data and technology into daily life and tourism development is a key factor in creating a better, more sustainable, and resilient future for Macao.

The research situation of tourism capacity and carrying capacity at home and abroad shows that the study of urban tourism capacity is a strategic proposition for maintaining the sustainability of urban tourism development. The Macao government has made full use of the data analysis and intelligence city construction, to develop a scientific and sustainable management system of urban tourism capacity, the use of travel web sites and public information platform, instant release tourism scenic landscape index, channel flow to realize the macro-control of scenic area environmental capacity.

As a student, what we need to do is to combine science and technology with the tourism industry and respond to the government's call. It is a good choice for us to make use of big data analysis to establish a tourism consulting network system and the identification system to provide tourists with convenient tourism consulting services and implement effective tourism capacity space management by scientific means. For example, systematize the real-time video and use big data analysis to update road conditions, as well as AI is used to adjust the duration of traffic lights. In this way, the intelligence city system can guide tourists to the specified areas in a planned way instead of gathering too many tourism economic factors in a certain region, consuming the tourism carrying potential of a certain region of the city, resulting in a potential crisis of the tourism capacity of the central city, which threatens the sustainability of the tourism development of the whole city. Therefore, a “win-win” situation can be built. The tourism experience of visitors will be greatly improved so that they can be better able to an in-depth understanding of local culture and have a higher desire to visit Macao again.

For a brighter future, let’s get our hands on some SDG targets, and set our hope starting today. Together, we can improve the database and build an intelligence city so that visitors and locals in 2030 can all live much better. In this way, Macao, a city suitable for living, business, travel, leisure, and entertainment will be built sustainably and conflicts between residents and tourists will be greatly reduced. This pattern can still be applied to places around the world. Residents are no longer bothered by crowds of tourists as soon as they step out of their homes. Tourists will not be anxious about the impact of excessive tourist flow on the experience of scenic spots.

Right now in 2021, to ensure the promising future of human beings, we have no choice, but to succeed.
